Tests & Results

Obtaining results from the practice

The quickest and easiest way to check your test results is by downloading the NHS app.

Most blood test results take 3-5 working days to come back to the practice, although some tests can take longer. X-rays, scans, ECGs and less common tests may take two weeks or longer. Once the results have been viewed and commented on by our clinical team, it will be available to view under your GP health record.

Alternatively, please submit an online consultation here. Please click on the “I want administrative help” option which will then allow you to submit an enquiry about a test result. We aim to respond to all administrative queries within 5 working days.

Please note we request that you do not assume that a result is normal if we do not contact you. The surgery will contact you if there is a significant problem with your results, but please follow up on all tests you have done.

Our reception staff are not qualified to comment on results therefore it is your responsibility to check them and make any necessary follow-up appointments with the doctor.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

If your test has been requested and carried out by the hospital, please call them directly for the result as we do not routinely receive any correspondence until they have been actioned by the specialist and discussed with you by them.

Samples/Specimens

All specimens must be provided in a suitable container and marked clearly with name, date of birth, date provided and reason for the specimen.

Failure to do so may mean that the test will need to be repeated – Please note that when bringing in a sample to the surgery, only samples in the correct container can be accepted. These are available from reception.

Please ensure your sample or specimen is brought into the surgery before 2:30pm each day as they will not processed on time

Please DO NOT leave samples/specimens in the outside post box as they will be destroyed and the tests will need to be redone!
